....Ordering new equipment continued

The following suggestions are from an industry perspective of a replacement parts dealer.  These suggestions should be taken along with your own knowledge, needs and other considerations.

Trucks:

Make sure there is sufficient clearance between wheels and body or frame of truck to utilize full size chain sets.  Manufacturers are producing trucks that chains will not fit due to lack of clearance.  They may tell you that you’ll never need chains but that may be very short sited .  It’s easy to say you won’t need it in July but do consider the unpredictable Wisconsin winter season can throw anything our way with very little warning.  Also consider you may look to resell that truck in the future and the next potential buyer may need chains.  This affects the resale value.

Graders:

There are so many choices and options when it comes to ordering your next grader but from our perspective one simple consideration will make ordering grader blades very simple and quick vs. Waiting for special orders which can take extra weeks of waiting for parts.

The standard bolt hole size is 5/8” and spacing between the bolts is six inches.  Suppliers keep these parts in stock and are able to supply them with very little wait.  A 3/4”bolt size is a special order, can cost more, gives you no added strength or durability and will usually mean wait time.  Waiting is not what anyone wants so simply making sure you aren’t stuck with non-standard equipment will save you headaches.

Loader Buckets:

There are a myriad of loader buckets on the market and they can do countless tasks.  Ordering buckets with straight edges rather than nose pieces makes for easier measurements and reordering of cutting edges.

In any case you should order what you need for your specific issues and keep your new equipment matched with your old as much as possible.  If you can change out parts between your trucks, graders, sweepers and  loaders you’ll find downtime minimized and life much easier.
